Daniela

One of the highest priorities of the 2011 Mission Trip was to transport a high-back wheelchair into Ecuador for a very special little girl named Daniela.  Eight years old, she was born with encephalomyelitis.  This week we visited the village of Milagro where Daniela lives.

After delivering the wheelchair to Daniela, we worked with her parents and a local therapist to teach them how to provide stimulation and treatment to the rambunctious Daniela.  Now she can experience the world from a different vantage point.  She has already been out and about, making new friends everywhere she goes.

We are ecstatic that we were able to help Daniela. It has been a group effort; many thanks to everyone that supported Causes to help make this possible.  There is still a lot of work to do for her and the thousands more that we have learned about during our short visits.  Prevention is possible.  Abuses in the environment, in the workplace, in the home all are areas that need attention.  Education must take place in all aspects of life, not only for Ecuadorians, but all those in the global community who are able to lend a helping hand.

We have taken a bold step forward, but Daniela’s journey is far from over.  We are excited to help Daniela grow into a woman.    See what you can do to help.
