• Outdoor Mobility in NWI

Accessing the beaches and trails in Northwest Indiana can be very challenging for individuals with limited physical mobility regardless of age.

Thanks to our relationship with Indiana State Park, Department of Natural Resources and the Indiana Dunes National Park we were able to come together to test various mobility equipment. The equipment provides access to many who otherwise would never get to the waters edge, visit the trails and experience nature as we did at the IN Nature Center and Chellberg Farm.

This week we got to experience both, our friends at Outdoor Mobility Gear brought several chairs for us to test out. The feeling of freedom to move in all sorts of terrains is indescribable.

A couple of pieces can now be found at the Douglas Center in Gary thanks to a Quality of Life Grant from the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. Other pieces will soon be available at the IN State Park and IN Dunes National Park thanks to Friends of the Indiana Dunes Foundation.

To continue expanding these opportunities of accessibility, you are invited to make a contribution to this and other projects supported by CCI.
