Causes for Change for the past few years has been advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities in Northwest Indiana. Noticing the need, CCI’s founder and president, Zully JF Alvarado, worked with partners in the region to create an organization that would address many of the issues of concern including: employment, business development, mobility and outdoor recreation. With the support of a micro grant from the Indiana Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities The Volunteer Office for Community Accessibility, Resource, & Training (VOCART) was founded incorporated in 2019, and received its IRS 501 C3 Tax Exemption in June 2020.

A key project that VOCART will be undertaking is the Disability Equipment Network, DEN, otherwise referred to as VOCART’s DEN where people in need of durable mobility and medical equipment will be able to borrow. A nominal financial contribution would be recommended. Any funds donated will help with repairs and equipment maintenance.

Individuals with disabilities will be required to make appointments as there will be no specific office hours. Monthly clinics will be scheduled at which time they will be seen.

VOCART’s DEN is seeking to establish a bank of Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapist who would enjoy volunteering and participating in this project. Inquiries may be sent to VocartNWI@gmail.com
