    Zully JF Alvarado was invited to speak at the 2019 Transit Day at the Indiana Statehouse. Here she addressed the lack of accessible transportation in its various forms along with time schedules to meet the demand in Northwest Indiana Region.

    Suggested that it was time to see and provide services to persons with disabilities from a social and business lens, that although important to have routes to medical facilities and grocery stores, holding on to a medial model in serving this population was no longer acceptable. As more people with disabilities seek to be employed new systems of transit to accommodate the need is required. People with Disabilities in addition to desiring to be employed they too wish to avail of opportunities to socialize and meet their civic obligations.

    Through the coordination of Health by Designs and Indiana Citizens’ Alliance for Transit (ICAT), transportation advocates of cities, towns; transit representatives had the opportunity to meet and be heard by their respective House Representatives and Senators on a particular legislative bill.
