Dayana is nine years old. She lives in the rural area of Bugaba, Panama. She comes from a very loving and caring family. But due to her parent’s economic circumstances, they were unable to afford a wheelchair for Dayana. She has been living with cerebral palsy since birth and unable to get around on her own.
Until now.
On February 25th, 2011, the Panamanian foundation, Horizonte, contacted us via e-mail asking us to assist with Dayana’s case. Horizonte sent us pictures, diagnostics and detailed information about the girl’s condition. After evaluating the case and the documents, we worked with our volunteers and local resources here in United State to identify the correct wheelchair for Dayana. Thanks to a local group Cambiando Vidas from Independent Living Center: Access Living we were able to find the correct chair for her. In less than four months we were able to ship the wheelchair to Panama.
The Foundation Horizonte received the special wheelchair and were able to refinish the wheelchair and deliver it to the Dayana. Dayana and her family were very grateful. She is enjoying her new life as she learns to become more independent. A whole new world has opened up to her and we are excited to see where her life’s journey will take her.
We would like to thank all our partners that helped Causes for Change make Dayana’s story a happy one.
